In the footsteps of the smugglers: a guided hike through the Val d'Uina

The Val d'Uina is a spectacular canyon in the Lower Engadine. The rock path "Il Quar", formed by controlled explosions in the steep rock face, was built at the beginning of the 20th century as access to the Pforzheimerhütte. Soon, however, the route between Italy and Switzerland was also used for smuggling. On this guided tour, you will walk through the spectacular gorge and learn everything about the eventful history of the place from your guide.

The group will take the bus and the cable car to the starting point of the hiking tour. Lunch is served at the Sesvenna Hut. From "Uina dadora", the group will take the Postbus back to Sent and Scuol.

 

Procedure:

  • Meeting point and starting time: Scuol, Postbus stop "Belvédére", 08.30am, or Sent, Postbus stop "Dorfplatz", 08.45am
  • Hiking information: hiking time 4 to 5 hours, altitude difference 1367 m, hiking distance 15 km
  • Difficulty:  medium to experienced

 

Important information:

  • Equipment: hiking boots, all-weather clothing, snacks, identity card, possibly binoculars
  • There is the option to have lunch at the Sesvenna hut.
  • Number of participants: at least 4, maximum of 25 people

 

Travel tip:

Easy return: buy a single ticket to the above stop, have it stamped by your guide, and it will also be valid for the return journey. The offer is valid from all entry points in Grisons for journeys with the Rhaetian Railway and Postbus.
